First off, we will be looking at The Little Rascals (1994) and pride. Because pride is historically considered the worst sin, we will look at it first! Let’s dive in!
The kids in the beginning are so proud in their club that they will not let certain people in. Froggy (Jordan Warkol) asks for the “hi sign” at the door. He won’t let Butch (Sam Saletta) and Woim (Blake Jeremy Collins) into the club house.
When in the club house with Darla (Brittany Ashton Holmes), Alfalfa (Bug Hall) says, “I’m not ashamed of you! I’m proud of you!” I do believe he is proud of her, but he is actually more scared of his club more.
The “He-Man-Woman-Hater club” is also very proud of their car, the Blur. They set Alfalfa to guard the car as punishment for burning down the club house. The greatest thing they have is that car, and they don’t want to lose it (but they do).
When Spanky (Travis Tedford) and Alfalfa are fighting, both are too proud to go talk to each other. Stymie (Kevin Jamal Woods) tries to get them together, but they don’t want to. Eventually, they get together and apologize.
Spanky says “do us proud, buddy” after they make the new go-kart. Now that the Blur is gone, the club takes their pride from winning the go-kart race. They have to have something to be proud of.
In the end, Spanky is so proud that they won and that only boys could have helped each other, he doesn’t even realize a girl could be under the helmet. And, of course, Darla is. This changes the whole idea of their club, and they bring girls in.
Pride is bad. We should not be proud of ourselves but others. I think these kids learn this. That is why they invite girls into their private place where even bullies can’t go.
Due to the fact that I am a graduate student, I cannot help but think about what I am learning in regards to what I am writing. So, in a classroom I have been a part of, we are looking at Dante’s Inferno. Here is a look at the ranking of the seven deadly sins in relation to the Inferno.
Although pride is historically considered the worst, currently, it, apparently, it is not. Look at a poll of which is considered the worst. Have a look at the comments, too.
I love Prezi’s!!!! Check out how love plays a role in this movie.
Thanks for reading! Come back next week!
