In the beginning, Sarah Hawkins (Laurie Metcalf) goes against her nature by letting Jim (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) go with Dr. Doppler (David Hyde Pierce) into space. She wants to be involved with Jim’s life so much, but she chooses to let him go and have an adventure without her by his side.
John Silver (Brian Murray) appears to change his nature for Jim as well. He is the ringleader of the pirates, calling the shots and making the decisions no matter how ruthless. However, after spending some time with Jim, he changes. He starts to care for the boy and even defends him against the other pirates. He would even give up his treasure which he wanted for years to save Jim.
Towards the end when it seems like the crew won’t make it, Jim instructs them to turn back towards the danger to save their lives. He knows there is a portal that can save them if they will fight their natural flight instincts. They return to the explosive planet to save their lives.
A complicated analysis of John Silver. Is he a good guy or a bad guy? Leave a comment below!
