We see first Harry’s (Daniel Radcliff) ability to produce a beautiful patronus when he saves Dudley (Harry Melling) from the Dementors. It is incredible that he can make a full patronus as such a young age.
Next, we meet the Order of the Phoenix members who come to take Harry away to Grimmauld Place. They are obviously talented people. Tonks (Natalia Tena) is gifted in changing her appearance, even when she isn’t trying to. Her hair turns red when she gets mad a Moody (Brendan Gleeson) for calling her “Nymphadora”. She also changes her nose to entertain Ginny (Bonnie Wright). We see their abilities even further near the end in the Ministry of Magic when they defend the students against the Death Eaters.
Even Professor Umbridge (Imelda Staunton) embraces her talents when she goes to Hogwarts. She is obviously skilled in torturing people and making rules. As “High Inquisitor” and later Head Mistress, she does plenty of both throughout this movie.
Dumbledore’s Army is probably the main place where we see the students working on and perfecting their abilities. They practice many different kinds of charms and spells. Even Neville (Matthew Lewis), who can’t do anything, learns how to disarm someone. They’re abilities are truly tested in the Ministry of Magic when they fight the Death Eaters.
The Weasley twins (James and Oliver Phelps) are also very talented in making funny creations. They made things like Extendable Ears and Puking Pastilles. Even their huge firework dragon is impressive and shows how clever they are at making creative things.
Snape (Alan Rickman) shows more of his abilities when he tries to teach Harry occlumency. He does have great power in being able to penetrate Harry’s mind. Also, because he is teaching this, he must be fairly good at preventing someone from seeing his thoughts as well. This comes in handy especially when he is working as a double agent for Voldemort (Ralph Fiennes).
Also, with the big fight in the end, we see how truly talented Dumbledore (Michael Gambon) and Voldemort are. They battle fiercely with each other. We hear throughout the movies that Dumbledore is Voldemort’s only true enemy. He is the only one powerful enough to fight him. This is a great place where we get to see what they are capable of.
The only place where Harry isn’t embracing his strengths is that he distances his friends. Their team mentality is their biggest strength. However, he sees this in the end and fixes it after this movie.
Here is an analysis of the book this movie was based on. Very interesting.
